Needle Play
Needle Play
Needle usage in impermanent piercings dates back as far as 100 BCE, where the first literature mentioning acupuncture was written. Beyond that, there is a Thai ritual known as Mah Song where certain people are chosen to torture themselves for nine days by pushing needles through their tongues and cheeks as a way to bear to burdens of their people. Hook Suspension is another form of (kinda) impermanent piercing, where people will push hooks through select parts of their body and hang from the hooks.
Needle play looks different for every person. Some people participate in needle play exclusively for the feeling. They will take hypodermic needles and push them through parts of their body. Popular places include the clit, testicles, and nipples. Other people however are in the play more for the art, and will place needles in a way that looks artistic (see images below). Needle play can be very dangerous if you aren't careful, though.
When engaging in needle play, it is important to remember sanitation. You must use new needles every time, have a sharps bin for used needles (and dispose of them properly), have 91% rubbing alcohol and sterile gloves, and always always always have a clean canvas (skin) to pierce.
Ensure that you're only piercing the top layer of skin. This will help make sure lasting damage is not done. Research everything before your scene starts. Don't start the scene, get your blood running, and then realize you have no clue if it is safe to pierce armpits (it is not safe, due to a large number of veins in the area. Hands, wrists, sternum, spine, and other high blood flow areas are off-limits.) Do all of your research and Negotiations before the scene starts.
To make sure your scene goes as smoothly as possible, make sure you are prepared for the following:
High blood flow if you've been consuming alcohol, Asprin, or other substances that thin blood.
Shaking and/or dehydration due to endorphins, blood loss, or pain (have sugary snacks and water readily available). If the bottom is going pale or shaking excessively, stop and do a check-in. They may need to stop but not realize it.
The potential for infections if proper Aftercare is not utilized.
Overall, needle play is a fun way to experiment with physical feelings and bodily sensations. As long as you do all of your research and negotiations, you could find a new favorite kink!

This kink has always fascinated me, but I've never found a partner willing to try it. I could never do it alone though, both for safety reasons (it isn't quite safe to try something so physically demanding alone for the first time) and because I am too big of a baby to put a needle in my own skin.
Anyone that does try it should make sure they read up on everything before trying it. Don't rush your learning. Always have a Safeword and practice Proper Care, both Physically and With Your Tools.
